If a company never pays a dividend then the stock is functionally a Ponzi scheme

I'll ignore you. slow growth stocks that pay them and you reinvest them are bad, but I'll take my apple, goggle and Microsoft dividends auto reinvest them. The company is investing their money into the investor. it is like a buyback. they are so big and growing they plan that expense to reward the investor

You buy a rental property. You collect rent. You hold the property and collect the rent. And it’s tax efficient. 🤷🏼♀️

U r an idiot, companies pay dividends based on profit after taxes, in stable companies there’s less avenue to invest for new growth, that’s why they pay out dividends. In high growth companies, major part of after taxes profit is reinvested for growth, it’s not similar to selling shares at all

precisely,a dividend company is only ever a point for consideration if the company literally has nowhere else to put the cash because it's reinvesting every cent it can and therefore achieving growth and outpacing the market

Dividend is a better tax haven. Capital gains on share sales are taxed slightly higher

rhe whole point of dividends is to take part of the cash flow instead of having the company hoard and spend it on inefficient things. meant for mature companies btw

I’ve had SCHD for over a decade..Over 200% growth and receive passive income that I can spend on what I want or reinvest. 90% of my portfolio is growth ETFs and most dividend investors aren’t all in on dividend stocks alone. It’s another form of diversifying but having more liquidity. I would say that people in their 20’s and 30’s would benefit more from focusing on growth ETFs or stocks.

People arguing for dividends hate math. Total Return = Growth + Dividends

Ok, Jim. And what is a company supposed to do with the money then? Is every company under the sun going to be better off reinvesting gains or hoarding money to infinity?

Frank :
You are absolutely right BUT, dividend paying companies tend to be super solid cash cow companies. Less volatile USUALLY. So investing in these companies for retirees gives them safer companies, income and some appreciation too. But your premise is correct.
