Dude you can’t be serious. This is shade tree Diag. You could unplug the sensor, have an open circuit and have the exact same scenario.

That's an advisor thing that happens when they sell both for part sales, they will claim "well both control valves are aging the same and could fail at any time" I hear it all the time in shops. People need to stop blaming the tech all the time.

works unless the code was sensor high or open circuit code, then need to short to see if it changes

It’s always been cheaper for me to use a parts cannon if I had to than to take it to a mechanic. Most of the time I diagnosed the problem correctly but the times I didn’t I ended up with spare parts which is way better than spending ten times as much on a mechanic.

It’s called a camshaft solenoid actuator valve. They fail due to low oil or took too long for the oil pressure to build after an oil change. Both intake and exhaust are damaged. It’s not throwing the intake one because the exhaust failed so the ecm is not commanding the intake on due to the exhaust actuator code. Put just one on if you want. The car will be back. Done a lot of them on Equinoxes because of the oil consumption issue.

if that code went off for that particular sensor that was plugged up that you just unplugged you would still have the same code because it was bad in the first place but when you unplug the second sensor that's why you got a different code but the code already told you which censor it was when you unplugged it and it didn't give you another code

You could also just simply ohm out the solenoid valve, think spec is usually around 11-13 ohms or you could compare the “good” side to verify t

I have found out that if you don’t replace them both shortly after replacing one of them the other one goes bad so I feel it’s best to replace them both

Way more nuance to this bud. Not even worth sharing without a good specific use case. This works if it’s a circuit fault and there is ambiguity on what actual component is responsible. At the dealer we get stuff like this all time time. Independent shops and customers do this “trick” and give up anyway. By the time we get it we have to sort through which faults are the original malfunction and which ones are outside influence. Only time I’ve had to do this for for cam lift solenoids where there is two per cyl. They are labeled cyl 2 a or b and the repair manual doesn’t make it easy to isolate what is what.
