See this makes me very curious about the director’s vision for this version of the play because it’s clear there was specific direction given about the cadence and intention behind the delivery here, like they were going for a more modern angsty-ish teenager mindset

As someone who studies Shakespeare I love it sm when an actor performs the script in the cadence of modern day language because it helps the audience to understand what the text is actually saying. This is very similar to how I would tell my students to perform this scene or how I would do it myself

they were teenagers, ppl. she's perfectly encapsulating a high school freshman in her bedroom obsessed with a boy. loooooovvveee modern cadence with shakespeare, andrew scott's to be or not to be is another perfect example. also, if you say you don't like shakespeare, but you've only ever tried reading it, you're doing it wrong, he never intended it to be read, only performed and heard/seen
