I saw that helium might have a future in cooling nuclear reactors instead of water since it is way more stable, doesn’t do any phase changes, and it doesn’t become radioactive like water does. I’ve only done surface level “research” into it, but thought it could be a viable alternative, despite some engineering challenges. Have you come across any information while looking into nuclear? Btw, love your videos and what you do!

here's the thing, traditional reactor designs were based upon cold war era needs that required the reactors to produce fissible fuel for weaponization. There are BETTER designs (such as thorium salt) which don't produce the same waste or have the same risks of criticality

If this industry does pop off, its likely that a lot of the rules surrounding ethical waste management will too. Unfortunately thats just how it goes. Theres already a lot of underfunded and/or unmanaged nuclear waste and cleanup efforts in this country

I read that France generates 70% domestic elec from nuclear. 96% of the nuclear waste is recyclable but they are building a repository for high level waste - Cigéo project, costing €37 bill construction starting 2027 to be ready for 2050.
