Does this mean we can compete for 5 seasons under the new rule? It’s all a bit confusing 😅

What if you have 2 years left and aren’t d1 then you transfer d1 like do you get that year 🤔

So for us, I know that we’ve always had five years of eligibility, which we still are entitled to. But I know for cheerleading specifically with the Covid eligibility and injuries, there were multiple athletes still somehow in their sixth , seventh, and even eighth season. So how it’s been explained to me is that you basically can’t red shirt for injuries and Covid eligibility is not existent now because for us 2020 and 2021 did not count as eligible season. However, you can still red shirt for your freshman year season which gets you five seasons I think. But this might be specific cheerleading that’s just how it’s explained to me.

So what if I’m at division 2 and completed 4 years. Can I go division one to exhaust that 5th year of eligibility?

They should just put an age cap on it at like 25 and let you play those 4 years whenever you want before then

I’m an incoming freshman playing soccer in the fall. I tore my acl and my coach said that I’m gonna get redshirted next year. Since this applies to the 2027-2028 year and not this upcoming year (i think) what will happen with me do I just get 5 years stlll?

Nothing in D1 sports is done in the best interest of the athletes. It’s all for the best interests in the program.
