Ross would have been in the process of getting his doctorate when he married Carol. if he needs help to pay for a wedding while he's employed then they absolutely paid for (at least part of) two of Ross's weddings In the same decade.

Another crazy thing is that the show says that Ross was so favored because he was a miracle baby, but he was born first, so that also make Monica a miracle baby too. But apparently in their eyes it’s not a miracle the second time
