Peter, I enjoy your videos. Do you know of any imaging studies which detect and measure brain activity and consciousness/sensation, etc. for Alzheimer’s patients? I’m not referring to the amyloid tangles, which don’t directly detect some of this activity, but rather studies which do (fMRI, etc.)

I remember a few years ago there was a relatively young man who was in a coma and he was awake the entire time and heard everything that everybody said nurses doctors his own mother saying that she wish she was dead. He was actually SA. and he eventually woke up and had all of those memories.

Great lesson Doc! As patients age and are closer to death, usually they responded to their first language. In my experience, most respond to being given commands in Apache rather rhan English. Would this also be relevant here?

As an anesthesiologist, I don’t like it when people make off comments about the anesthetized patient. Especially, things like, they won’t make it, that tumor is huge and it spread everywhere…. We really don’t know what patients under anesthesia can hear, so we should assume normal hearing.
