That riot shield is flimsy af even for a riot shield. The modern analog of a Viking shield would be a ballistic shield.

....you do realize a ballistic shield is what you want to compare to the Viking one NOT a riot shield. They are not in the same category. A pavise is more in the riot shield category. Try that next time and results would be more on par.

I mean your comparing an old shield and a modern shield but using old weapons, if your going to include both eras as shield variables you should include both eras as weapons too

I doubt the modern Riot Shield was made with the intention of taking arrows from a war bow regularly like that, or any of the heavier polearm weapons you used. So while the Viking Shield looks like it would hold out a little longer on a medieval battlefield, the Riot Shield did better than I expected

pretty sure the riot shield is designed to block small arms which is the only real benefit. honestly, if we were worried about blocking melee strikes and arrows i would actually probably prefer the other one with maybe small modern adaptations like a brace as observing just from this? it's surprisingly more effective at stopping piercing and deflecting non piercing projectiles just from observations

the heavier something is, the more force it can absorb, even if the material's flimsier. i'd take a big ass shield than a lightweight one any day.
