The fact they went with the small and pretty segment is the reason it cost so much for what it is. They basically used a bunch of custom mobile parts, so it's not surprising it's overpriced and underperforming.

That is actually insane . I bought a pre-built for 700 and then bought a 9070 for 600 . Thats $1300 right there. Steam Machine is 1300 for Rdna 3 ??? 8GB of Vram ???

there is def a premium for how small it is. can you build a pc that small for a significantly smaller price? if it wasnt for AI it prob would be priced around 800

You should 100% still just get a PC. But if your a console only player and want a console like device it’s really cheap over the course it’s life time. With the price of console subscriptions over 5 to 10 years you’re paying double the price for Xbox or PS to be online and play. All that said, you should still just get a PC.

If u start counting cost of production u will find out that this thing does not earn money. And thats bad news because helix and ps6 should have ~48gb of universal RAM. This is double of value steam machine, btw. So it price probably starts from 1500$ for basic version in the best case scenario

steam machine is a bummer, i dont really blame valve though since they announced it back before ram,gpu, and storage went haywire on prices and they either could A.drop nothing and scrap it which would suck since that guarantees no new competitors. or B.wait for pricing to come down, which could be months or years.
