Their first mistake was moving it a week before stampede and all the major festivals are happening when people have already spent a large chunk of money preparing for those, I guarantee you they weren’t making enough sales and now with the restrictions in place it was probably making things even harder.

the mayor clapped back at their excuses today. like the construction outside on confluence has easily been happening 6+ months now, the noise restriction changes did not apply to country thunder and they were told this.

I live so close to the confluence, the construction along 9th is so messed up. I actually didn’t even think about that until yesterday but it’s kind of a nightmare to drive around the construction

Multiple reasons. It’s gonna dump rain, Kane Brown is injured, they moved it to the weekend before Stampede, line up wasn’t great, they didn’t sell tickets, etc. They’d love for you to believe the noise bylaws are the reason (when their concerts end earlier than our noise bylaws)

Interesting...because just two days before cancelling, Country Thunder publicly said Calgary's new noise rules wouldn't affect the festival since they already finished by 11 p.m. Then, after cancelling, the noise restrictions suddenly became a major reason.
Meanwhile, the City says it actually increased the festival's allowable noise level this year and had been discussing construction plans with organizers since January.
So either everything changed in 48 hours...or the public explanation isn't telling the whole story.
Funny how the story gets louder after the music stops.
