@mind.overloaded: The boy who could not sit still became the man nobody knew was struggling. Going quiet when overwhelmed is not stonewalling. It is a nervous system that received a feeling too large for any available word, and silence became the only container that fit. Saying yes to everything and disappearing from half of it is not unreliability. It is two different brains, the one that agreed and the one that showed up, each working with what they had, which was never the same amount. The anger that arrives at small things is never about the small thing. It is about a nervous system that has been holding everything else for so long that the small thing was simply the last weight it could not carry. And getting close to everything, the job, the relationship, the version of themselves they almost became, and leaving just before it fully landed, is not self-sabotage in the way people mean it. It is a man who learned early that being witnessed at the moment of failure was worse than not arriving at all. He functions at a level that makes everyone around him think he is fine. The deficit runs quietly underneath, unseen, unasked about, accumulating. He was never lazy. He was never difficult. He was never too much. He was just never given the right explanation for what was actually happening. #adhd #neurodivergent #mindoverloaded #adhdmen #undiagnosedadhd

if i may add: you also reach a point in life where masking is utterly exhausting so instead of being your true, strange self; you abandon everything and create comfort in solitude.

I’ve been struggling from since a child & now I’m 45 & only been diagnosed with ADHD, dyspraxia & I knew along time ago I was dyslexic as my mates dad who was a teacher had assessed me for it & told me at a young age, but teachers kept making me read books rather then help me with my work.
