Playing pubs is my full-time job for approx 30 years. I don't expect everyones full attention until the last hour. From time to time theres background music or noise spilling from the karaoke room. Make sure your sound system is big enough to say fu*k off, and also don't give a f*CK and just play. This pause between songs is too long. One guy asking for a song shows he's already on your side.Can't think of anything else right now. scream it out. 💚💪🙂

bar staff can be so busy they might not even know your there and ready to play. I always request the music to be switched off. never an issue. Crank up your PA so you can hear yourself over chat.

This used to drive me mental. Now I just tell these kinds of venues I’ll just control the music on my breaks etc and just have an iPad or phone with a playlist going through your mixer. Also means you can control the vibe of songs while you’re not playing and if you break a string or anything you can quickly put music on. Unfortunatley were an afterthought for most bars but just make it work for you 👏💪🏻

not going to lie. 90% of the time you cant hear the singer clearly. it echo etc. ive walked pass pubs and the singer/band has sounded great but you go in and it omg make it stop

I do 12 a week and could not give a shit if they leave it on tbh😂the longer the better just sit there and wait to make eye contact with a staff member and they’ll switch you over We have to remember they’re also busy and music mightnt be the first thing on their mind to switch us straight over

don't let it bother you, tell them down the mic to turn it off. could be a genuine mistake, I've run an open mic for 15 years and it happens sometimes, if there's one person on the bar.
