It certainly helped that they speak fluent French. Language skills are critical, especially on the international stage. The officials working the World Cup deserve as much love and respect as any of the competitors on the pitch. I know how much they have worked and sacrificed to make this day possible. It is literally a dream come true for them. I was thrilled to be able to greet them upon their arrival and watch them perform on the biggest stage in the world.
