My main interest in this historical period, and in literature such as The Epic of Gilgamesh, is that it opened my eyes to the existence of an alternative flood narrative alongside the one found in the Bible. It immediately suggests that societies across the ancient Near East were sharing and adapting stories over thousands of years.
