@saltsugarandstories: Replying to @Vickie Rogers This has been one of the most asked questions in my comments, so I wanted to answer it. I share the name of the home, where it was located, when I was there, and what eventually happened to it. If you’d like to learn more about its history, there’s plenty of publicly available information you can find by searching New Bethany Home for Girls. Thank y’all for caring enough to ask. ❤️ #answer #comment #response #children #church

How do you stay so tiny? I’m 5-2 and weigh 116-117 but it’s hard to get any smaller. I’m a carboholic too.

I've said this before, and I will say this again...other than your sad childhood, you remind me so much of myself. Now, my childhood was very heavenly. I wished that you had, had the childhood I had. My husband and I have been married 47 years. He is my 3rd husband...he should have been the first and only husband, but God evidentally did not want it that way. You are the spitting image of my only sister who I just lost in January. My roots are Louisiana...I just feel that somehow we are related. We may not be, but the first time i ever saw you, I was shocked. My maiden name is Bedell (french/Italian), and I am now 80.

The reasons for being there in the home is identical to a residential group home I was in for a year in SC - Tamassee DAR School (funded by daughters of the american revolution). But it was and is a good place to my knowledge. I was there for 1 year - my 7th grade year. My grannie raised me (bad parents) and she decided to go be a houseparent at the school. It was one of the best year’s of my life. Wish my grannie had stayed so Id have gotten to stay too!

There was a Bethany Home in Memphis. I believe it was a home for young pregnant girls. My sister worked there for a short period of time as a social worker.

Do you think the home was a better experience than entering the foster system?

I found several videos on YouTube about the home. You can find several videos on there. Interesting stuff to see and learn. To find them on YouTube enter “New Bethany Home For Girls” There’s so much info there. Thanks for sharing this Cheri.

When I got to New Bethany in ’96, I was in Arcadia. They had just shut Longstreet down and moved all the boys to Arcadia. The girls moved into the building across the street, right above the cafeteria, and the boys moved into that house. Thank you for sharing your story. I don’t talk about it much either.
