Beans. Rice. Eggs. Cabbage. Make your own bread and tortillas. It’ll be fine. You don’t get to eat what you want every day, but you will be fed. You will have your nutritional needs met. And that’s the most important part when trying to survive.

I have three kids and a dog. I spend $600 a month on groceries and household supplies. I’m a SAHM with disabled children. I go grocery shopping once a week when the paycheque hit the account.

unfortunately for a family of 4 for the week the least I can spend is $150. we live in NZ I prep and make my own snacks and biweekly I spend about $300 because hygiene, flour and bulk items for the meals, and things for my husband to take to work for lunch. I literally buy the bare minimum but most meat here is $13+ a kg it's kinda insane!

Did you post your grocery list for this somewhere? I’d be interested in seeing how much it would cost for me in Canada.

Can it be done? Yes. I may not WANT or like the options, but I will have food to eat, and that's what matters. I am lucky that I have a heap of fruit trees in my yard... that saves me a ton of $, and I trade with the farmer behind me. I will give them fruit and they will give me eggs and vegetables. And occasionally a chicken.
