With tears streaming down her face, she took one final look across the valley. Then she jumped. Days passed. When the young woman did not return home, her parents assumed she had run away with her boyfriend. They searched everywhere. They travelled to Port Moresby and asked the young man if he knew where she was. When he told them she never came with him, panic filled their hearts. For over a week they searched without success. Finally, the young man joined the search and returned to Sogeri with her parents. As he stood near the place where he had last seen her, sadness overwhelmed him. He walked slowly toward the cliff. There, below the steep rocks and thick vegetation, they discovered the body of the young woman. The parents fell to their knees in sorrow. The young man cried uncontrollably. The woman he loved was gone forever. The reality of what had happened shattered everyone. After her burial, the young man could not forget her. Every memory of her smile, her laughter, and her love remained alive in his heart. To keep her memory alive, he poured his pain into music. From his grief came a song dedicated to the girl from Sogeri—the girl he loved and lost. That song became known throughout Papua New Guinea as "Lewa Sogeri"—a song of love, heartbreak, and a reminder that true love should never be torn apart by prejudice or fear. Love is Love..
