My family escaped Iran, and hearing the call to prayer brings back a lot of trauma for me. I fully respect everyone’s right to practice their religion, but for many of us who come from authoritarian regimes, that sound is tied to fear, repression, and painful memories. I hope people can understand that perspective too.
