@chelseainmexico: Any advice? 😩 I wish I could say that was the only spot in the house with that issue but it isn’t 😑 #micasita #mexicanhouse #ourlifeafterdeportation #gto
1. Strip and Treat "Salitre" (Efflorescence) FirstIf your indoor walls are already bubbling, peeling, or showing white powdery stains (salitre), applying a sealer over it will fail. You must chemically neutralize the minerals first. The Process: Use a wire brush (cepillo de alambre) to scrape away all peeling paint and loose stucco until you reach the firm masonry layer. Clean the area thoroughly.Local Products: Apply Sika Zero Salitre or Comex Fin Salitre directly onto the bare masonry. These liquid treatments penetrate the wall to block the microscopic pores and prevent the salts from migrating back to the surface.2. Apply a Specialized Indoor Moisture Blocker (Impermeabilizante de Muros)Once the wall is treated and dry, you need a heavy-duty waterproofing barrier coat. Regular interior paint will not hold back the moisture pushing through from the inside of a concrete block. Ask at a local Comex store for Top Wall Humedad Extrema. It is a specialized, thick acrylic waterproofing paint formulated specifically for interior walls facing severe moisture.Application: Apply two coats directly to the wall using a roller. It seals the porosity of the masonry and acts as a shield against dampness without requiring an extra primer. It is available in white and pastel tones.3. Inject a Chemical Barrier Against Rising Damp (Humedad por Capilaridad)If the moisture is coming up from the ground and destroying the bottom 3 feet (1 meter) of your indoor walls, surface coatings might eventually blister. You need to cut off the water at the base. The Solution: Use an injectable cream like SikaMur InjectoCream-100.How it works: You drill a series of small horizontal holes along the mortar line near the floor and inject the cream. It migrates through the interior mortar, creating an invisible, continuous waterproof barrier that stops ground water from climbing up the wall.4. Improve Exterior and Structural DefensesIndoor moisture is almost always an exterior problem showing its face inside.Check the outside wall facing your indoor problem. If the exterior stucco is unpainted or cracked, coat it with a water-repellent sealant like Sikaguard-70 to stop rain from soaking through

Do you have an unfinished second floor or exposed rebar on the roof? Water can travel down the rebar and into the walls, but I think the other person is probably right it’s probably wicking up. Is it an exterior wall or one you share with a neighbor?

It’s your cimientos wicking water up. You had to have lined your footing with waterproofing before putting your (porous) concrete footers in. No clue how to fix it now. 😭

It’s the rain 😫 my room here is also doing the same thing. If there is a pipe near that wall and when it rain it just soaks it all up. I think to fix it you have to clean that area up and cover it up with cement like the rest of the wall. And then look into the problem if it gets very wet in that area from the outside

you've got a water issue under the floor. when the wall is wet low down, it's an under the floor issue.

Ours does that near the ceiling and top of the wall when it rains a lot and we need to reseal the roof. Have no idea near the baseboards though.

Houses with block and brick are built differently. Our walls did the same thing in some places and we were told it was the way the repromax was mixed poorly when they covered the brick. No water leaks and no moisture just bad job when repello was applied.

We have the same problem here in Arizona. My neighbor has a pool that’s bug ground and they drained every year by just letting it go on the ground it floods my yard and this last time it seeped through the wall and it has compromised the wall so I wrote them a letter indicating the damage. I’ve got the pictures water seeping through the wall and it’s killed a couple palm trees like the long message above by Cynthia I agree that’s what you have to do.
