In the UK you need to meet certain income thresholds to be eligible for a mortgage, most of which people don’t meet. Very different story for renting, so most people have no choice but to rent

Money down, interest rates, closing costs, home inspection all costs more money than rent and deposit. Even if you get an FHA and closing costs still costs more than renting.

Girl…a conventional loan requires 20% down on top of closing costs. We bought a relatively “cheap” house and our down payment after closing costs was around $35,000. We’d lived in 2 apartments prior and never paid more than $4,000 or $5,000 upfront. It’s not even comparable.

The average house in the US costs $500k. With a a minimum down payment of 3.5% you would need $17.5k. Average rent in the US is $1,700 so first, last, and a deposit would put you at $5,100. That’s why.
