@throatdoc: Dysphagia awareness month and i need to correct some misinformation. The esophagus does indeed start in what you as a patient call “your throat” and feeling a problem in there is often still an esophageal issue. If feeling the run around between ENT and GI, find a laryngologist, we help bridge this divide and misunderstanding. #medicaleducation #dysphagiaawarenessmonth
SLPs need to be mentioned here! We are the primary profession responsible for diagnosing and treating dysphagia.

Soooooo what does a speech-language pathologist do!? How does an MD not refer to a speech-language pathologist when referring a patient who has dysphagia???

Not mentioning SLPs for this video is wild and honestly insulting. If you value your colleagues mention it since we’re the major professional who aids with diagnosis and treatment when it comes to dysphagia 🙃

SLPs work with dysphagia… would be good to mention for others because they can go to one if they are experiencing problems and can get MBS or fees..this can help figure out what structural problems can be going on and what are some possible solutions. SLP is the specialist here…

And don’t forget to mention speech language pathologists how they do FEES and MBSS for swallowing disorders.

As an SLP. STOP IGNORING US. We primarily treat dysphagia NOT ENT or GI. GI treats esophageal dysphagia only. We socialize in oral pharyngeal and can help identify esophageal dysphagia per formal diagnostic imaging combined with radiology.

As an SLP, if the esophagus starts in your chest then what am I seeing when I do an MBS or FEES 😂. So many of the outpatient MBS start as referrals to SLPs and then we end up referring out to ENT or GI

If the esophagus wasn’t in the throat, we’d never miss an intubation! That would be amazing, but no.
