As a person who played destiny since the D1 Beta my dream of the end of destiny 2 was to make all of the old content and stories playable again even if it didn’t make “canon” sense. I sincerely believe that some of these lost stories and characters are some of the best the medium has to offer and the most heartbreaking thing about Destiny ending so unceremoniously is that that can never happen. It’s a study in the tragedy that is lost media and lost art.

From the way they talked about it at the time, you could tell that the “DCV” was meant to be a stopgap solution because the game was breaking under the weight of the additions (it was not meant to go on forever, there was supposed to be a sequel every other year), but the pressure to do more with less only increased from there, so things only got resurrected from the vault piecemeal. Another victim of the horrific mismanagement that plagued this game.

I played since D1 beta. I used to read grimoire cards on my iPod touch on the way to middle school as a daily ritual of sorts. I dropped it before Edge of Fate, but I’ve started playing again now that the sandbox is effectively locked in place. The lore is my home, it brings a tear to my eye.

Thank you for this video. I love destiny I started to play when warmind came out and I never looked back. The game is more than just shooting and loot but memories shared with friends and blueberries. I’ll never forget them and I hope the game never dies. Thank you

LoL bungie loves destiny 2 so much that they fundamentally changed the game's engine to the point where the red war content is incompatible. How do you suggest we go about preserving that content? 🫠

when anthem closed down i remember i saw a video come onto my recommended, someone was able to log in and play through the tutorial (idk how im not that technologically inclined), but idk maybe something like that can be done for destiny 2 when the servers eventually shut down.

I hope D2's end becomes a wake up call for some people at least even a little when it comes to game preservation. Protect Our Game/Stop Killing Games is a running bill so far but it's only going to be affecting games that comes out starting Jan 1 of 2027, so old games like D2 won't be affected by it sadly nor will Sony will be held accountable for it considering their own notoriety with buying studios and IPs before shutting them down e.g. Blue Point, etc. I love Destiny 2 but it really sucks it came to this point.

hope bungie can really recover from these last couple months. destiny is PEAK. marathon is PEAK. the hate between both of these games is so misunderstood and misdirected. marathon deserved to be a way bigger hit than arc raiders was. marathon actually has good servers, gunplay, characters, maps, and AI… arc raiders has… ? absolutely nothing special. bungie is an INCREDIBLE studio and they shouldn’t be constrained to the degree that they are
