what annoys me the most is that people only talk about ai's environmental impacts but in a way which diminishes the real issue. When people talk about climate change being caused by ai, it makes it seem like it's "not a big deal" or that climate change is "an easy fix". people need to realise that climate change is one of the biggest threats to our society which will greatly affect our generation and the ones to come. It's not caused by ai: it's caused by the amount of waste people leave, the amount of things people consume and the amount of greed that large coorporations have in order to make more money.

Can’t have this conversation without mentioning Oil and Animal agriculture/ fishing industry and fast fashion. AI is terrible, but it’s nothing in comparison - not even in the top 10 worst causes of climate destruction. Deforestation, water degradation and habitat loss is caused by people refusing to lower or eliminate their meat consumption. AI seems an ‘easy’ target because it requires no accountability or personal change from most people.
