In my family we have the "one year" rule. After one year, your partner is allowed to go to family gatherings and all, incl things like Christmas, weddins etc. Now, this was mostly when we were younger, but it stuck. And honestly, i do like the idea, as otherwise you have every year maybe a new partner at the table
