PM Update: Today brought both challenges and encouraging signs for Khloe. The Pentobarbital and Vasopressin were discontinued this morning around 8:30 AM. Unfortunately, Khloe’s urine output increased more than the doctors wanted, and her blood pressure dropped, so the Vasopressin had to be restarted. Khloe did experience a seizure around 6:00 PM. However, rather than returning to Pentobarbital, the medical team administered Phenobarbital. We are praying she remains seizure-free throughout the night, as we do not want her to have to go back on Pentobarbital. Khloe also remains on the Bear Hugger warming blanket. She is still very sensitive to temperature changes. Whenever the Bear Hugger needs to be removed for care or medical procedures, her temperature drops by a couple of degrees, so she is not yet able to maintain her body temperature on her own. We are praying her body continues to grow stronger and becomes better able to regulate itself. We also received some encouraging news today. As the Pentobarbital continues to wear off, Khloe’s brain is showing signs of responsiveness to sound. When Kayla spoke to her, it appeared that Khloe was able to process and respond to her mother’s voice. We were able to see brain activity on the monitoring screen, which was an emotional moment for all of us. At this time, there is activity on the right side of her brain, while activity on the left side remains very limited. We are praying that as the medication continues to clear from her system, more activity will return to the left side of her brain. Please continue to keep Khloe in your prayers tonight.
