The Ogoh-Ogoh are giant, terrifying statues created by Balinese communities for Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence. 👹 Made from bamboo, paper, and other materials, these spectacular figures often represent demons and evil spirits. On the night before Nyepi, they are carried through the streets in elaborate parades, accompanied by music and traditional performances. The tradition symbolizes the purification of the island and the expulsion of negative spirits. At the end of the procession, many Ogoh-Ogoh are burned, marking the destruction of evil and the beginning of a new year in the Balinese Saka calendar. Today, creating Ogoh-Ogoh has also become a remarkable art form, with some statues reaching several meters in height and featuring incredibly detailed and frightening designs. #Bali #OgohOgoh #Nyepi #BalineseCulture #Indonesia
