We were having one last girls day because I was moving countries in a few days. As we were pulling into the nail salon, my brother’s wife called. We sat there while they talked and after a while she said “hold on” and then turned to ask me if I would be upset if she took me home so she could go and get brunch with my brother and his wife. That was nine years ago and it still stings. We haven’t spoken in six years.

I have three siblings so I hardly get any time with her... I started staying at her house more than Dad's to get more time, but my older sister started doing it too so I still don't get a lot of time with my mom alone

My mom canceled my 13th birthday party because my older sister broke up with her boyfriend and needed my mom. Yeah. Learned very early I was not the favorite.

My older sister always got birthday parties with her friends invited. I didn't. My parents said it was because my sister's birthday was in the summer when everyone was available, no school, etc. Mine was in the fall during school. Finally, my 7th birthday fell on a Saturday so I got to have a party. After I opened my gifts, my parents pulled out a big wrapped gift for my sister to open because they didn't want her to "feel bad" about my party. They'd never done that for me at any of her annual parties. Even at only 7, I was like, "WTF?"

I was already severely strained in my relationship with my mother- my husband offered to call her and tell her she had a grandson right after I gave birth, and I agreed. She hung up on him because she was having coffee with my sister and the airport and would “call us back after her flight”. She never called back. That was 14 years ago- I don’t miss her.

I live abroad and would call everyday to tell them stories of their only grandchildren that they adore. They told me everyday was a bit too much for them and I thought yeah no problem, I get it. I was staying with them with the kids one summer and noticed how every single day my mom got her headset on to speak to my brother. He has no kids he just talks about his day. Everyday. That wasn't too much for her.

I know it's horrible that parents do this and have favourites but the siblings also need to step up and say "hey you're out with brother/sister right now, I'll call you back later" or have some self awareness and not call the parent when they know that they are spending time with their other siblings.

I asked my mom about yoga/pilates all the time and every time she said no….my sister asked one time though and not only did they go without me but my mom was an hour late picking me up from my dads house because she was at yoga

my mom was scared she had cancer and asked me to go with her to the appointment the next day, I said yes. Next day she left without me because my sister could go.

I got yelled at on my birthday for putting in my headphones in the car because they weren’t talking to me and then my sister got sad because she wanted to spend my birthday with me and I had my headphones in…. We were going to the restaurant she wanted too 😅

My mom took my sister out to 2 disney musicals. Movies, Restaurants, anything. I begged and begged to go with her somewhere as well, she’d tell me we don’t have money and then go somewhere with my sister again a few days later. I always had to stay home alone. Haven’t spoken to her in almost 10 years.
