@blairimani: The idea that LGBTQ+ identities are “Western” or “new” is a myth rooted in colonialism. Let’s get Smarter in Seconds about it with International Federation for Human Rights! 🏳️🌈💟🏳️⚧️ From Two-Spirit identities in North America to Takatāpui in Aotearoa and marriages between women in Kalenjin traditions in Kenya. Our community has always been here, even if the words may be newer. Many colonial era laws that criminalized in an erased us still exist today. When postcolonial leaders call LGBTQ+ people a “Western import,” they are often doing so while being funded by White American Evangelical Christians who export anti-LGBTQ+ policy worldwide. Hate is the import. We have always been here. Fight back globally at fidh.org With support from Francophone Feminist Alliance

In various mythos have Deities who are gendered transition into the opposite gender, often to achieve a goal, but through that experience they become someone different.
Loki from norse mythos and Tezcatlipoca, Tlaltecuhtli, and Ometeotl from Aztec mythos are a few examples of important figures who are described with non conforming gender identities.

Worse is it was commonly acceptable pre-Christianity in Europe… they used acceptance of LGBT in Rome as proof of damnation. And used it as a conversion technique.
