John sat alone on the last bench of the train station, clutching a faded photograph of his younger sister, Emma. Years ago, they had promised to travel the world together once they were grown. Life, however, had different plans. When their parents died, John gave up his dreams to raise Emma. He worked long hours, skipped meals, and saved every spare coin to help her attend university. Seeing her succeed made every sacrifice feel worthwhile. One winter evening, Emma called him. Her voice trembled with excitement. She had been offered her dream job in another city and wanted John to visit her soon. He smiled and promised he would. The next morning, a phone call shattered his world. Emma had been involved in a terrible accident during a snowstorm. She did not survive. Days turned into months, but John could not bring himself to remove her belongings. Her favorite books remained on the shelf, and her old scarf still hung by the door. Every night, he reread her final message: “Thank you for everything, John. I couldn’t have done any of this without you.” Years later, John finally boarded a train to the city Emma had loved. As it moved forward, tears filled his eyes. He carried no luggage—only a photograph and a promise that would never be fulfilled
