@brianleeceramics: I visited porcelain board factory in Jingdezhen. This area called 老鸦滩(Laoyatan) is specialised for making porcelain boards (I call it boards because they are too big to be tiles, but of course they can be made into smaller tiles). The boards can be used for qinghua paintings, glaze paintings, carving and even making porcelain boxes after cut into right dimensions. This is also where I am learning carving recently also. This area is one of the few remaining untouched region that hasn’t turned into tourist attractions. Public kilns in this area are also specialised for firing thin tiles. Which I will show in the later videos. They use medium white porcelain (中白泥) for making tile and if you use any other clays which are not from Jingdezhen, they are very likely to warp while being dried or even during firing. I heard it’s because the special properties of Jingdezhen porcelain, but I will research more and share later. #ceramics #pottery #porcelain #clay #tile
