This beautiful three tiered Zen Buddhist temple is covered in actual real gold leaf and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site  since 1994. Visitors can admire the reflection of the Golden Pavilion on the serene Kyoko-chi Pond which translates to (mirror pond). You can stroll the through the lush gardens, stone paths, and moss covered areas of the temple grounds to enhance the Zen experience There’s even a tea house where you can enjoy matcha tea and wagashi (Japanese sweets). Despite its name, the pavilion is not actually covered in silver foil  but it’s believed that  when moon light reflects on the building’s dark exterior it gives a silvery appearance. This Zen Buddhist temple consists of half a dozen other temple buildings, as well as a beautiful moss garden and a unique dry sand garden The silver pavilion is enjoyed by walking along a circular route around its grounds, from which the gardens and buildings can be viewed.
