Pokemon fanatic? Here’s your guide to visiting the gold and silver pavilion in Kyoto, Japan which were the inspiration for the Johto region! 🔥🌊🍃 The Golden Pavilion is also know as Kinkaku-ji. This beautiful three tiered Zen Buddhist temple is covered in actual real gold leaf and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994. Visitors can admire the reflection of the Golden Pavilion on the serene Kyoko-chi Pond which translates to (mirror pond). You can stroll the through the lush gardens, stone paths, and moss covered areas of the temple grounds to enhance the Zen experience There’s even a tea house where you can enjoy matcha tea and wagashi (Japanese sweets). The tickets are styled as Japanese talismans which makes for a charming keepsake of your visit. Fun fact: The golden phoenix statue on top of the temple inspired the legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh! The admission fee is 500 yen for adults & 300 yen for kids (Ages 7 to 15) Open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The silver pavilion also known as Ginkaku-ji. Despite its name, the pavilion is not actually covered in silver foil but it’s believed that when moon light reflects on the building’s dark exterior it gives a silvery appearance. This Zen Buddhist temple consists of half a dozen other temple buildings, as well as a beautiful moss garden and a unique dry sand garden The silver pavilion is enjoyed by walking along a circular route around its grounds, from which the gardens and buildings can be viewed. Entrance fee: 500 yen for adults & 300 yen for kids (Ages 7 to 15) Winter Hours (Dec 1 to Feb 28): 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Summer Hours (Mar 1 to Nov 30): 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Fun fact: The temple inspired Pokémon Johto’s Ecruteak City’s Burned Tower where the legendary Pokemon Lugia once lived.
