That comparison is misleading because it mixes different currencies.
South Africa: about R7.4 trillion GDP (South African rand), which is roughly US$400 billion. Nigeria: about ₦372.8 trillion GDP (Nigerian naira) after the 2025 GDP rebasing, which is roughly US$240–250 billion depending on the exchange rate.
