Motichoor Laddu ⸻ Ingredients Chana dal – 2 cups Orange or red food colouring – as needed Oil or ghee – for frying Sugar – 2 cups Water – 1 ½ cups Cardamom – 5–6 pods, crushed Saffron – a pinch Nuts of your choice – 50 g, chopped Optional: 2 tablespoons ghee ⸻ Method Wash and soak the chana dal for 3–4 hours. Drain the dal and blend it with a little water to make a thick batter. Add orange or red food colouring and mix well. Heat oil or ghee for frying. Take small portions of the batter and drop tiny dollops into the hot oil. Fry until crispy. Remove and let it cool for a few minutes. Then pulse or lightly blend the fried pieces to get a coarse texture. In a pan, add sugar, water, crushed cardamom, and saffron. Boil until it thickens slightly, just before one-string consistency. Add the laddu mixture to the warm syrup and mix well. Stir in chopped nuts and, if you like, 2 tablespoons of ghee for extra richness. Allow the mixture to cool slightly while still warm, so it absorbs the syrup evenly. Then shape the mixture into round laddus. 🔻 This recipe will make about 30 to 35 Motichoor Laddus, depending on the size you shape them. 🔻 If you have any doubts or questions, please do comment below.
