i’ve never thought about it like this before but i think you’re spot on.. when i got my first tattoo at 18 i was told by a middle aged man “well that’s the end of your youthful beauty” and i’ve always thought it made me uncomfortable for a reason

My sister told me “I got a tramp stamp tattoo” when she was around 18-20 years old. I went with her to watch her get her belly button pierced when she turned 18. *I wasn’t there for the tattoo. My point is: She told me that she got the “tramp stamp”…& she was not a tramp. Society always dictates what WOMEN SHOULD OR SHOULD NOT DO! I’m so f-cking tired of this! My body, my temple, my “house” holds my SOUL…and how I decorate the house is my business! 🥰

I have several tattoos, and daughter’s step mom has more than I do. My daughter is 18 and only has 1 tattoo so far, but wants several more. And I will never try to stop her. We all have different reasons for getting tattoos and that is our choice as an adult. I decorated my house because it makes me happy, so why can’t I do the same with my body? Let people say what they want, I enjoy my tattoos. And people say “what will you look like when you’re 90?!” I will look like a baddie with gray hair, Susan, so shut up! 🤣

It’s also why we also get shamed for scars, stretch marks, cellulite. There’s nothing wrong with any of those things, they’re just part of a grown woman’s body.

I’ve also heard that tattoos are a way of taking control of your body. It allows you to have ownership over an aspect of your appearance which can be very powerful for women with body image issues or low self esteem ❤️
