@zielzebub: Just because you budget out $100 for something, doesn’t mean you NEED to spend $100. coming in under budget, and still getting everything you need, is a very good thing #Budgeting #cheapmeals #budgetmeals @Mistikay

And that $8 can be used later in the month to purchase something you ran out of and need right away like toilet paper 🧻

Saving $8 a month for a year is $96, which is a month where you dont have to worry if/when it goes to shit

I used buy extra if I was under budget when I was trying to get my pantry together because that’s an expensive task. Now that I have a solid pantry I do save the extra money. That’s the only time I understand buying extras. Having that fully stocked pantry has saved my ass countless times

My mom told me to over-budget, so I'll say I can spend 100 dollars at the store, then it's a pleasant suprize when I spend 80, and have 20 dollars to put toward whatever I'm saving up for

I’m comfortably half and half on this. My husband and I will not need groceries for the next 2 weeks. We have a $75/week budget. We won’t spend all $150 the next 2 weeks, but I consider those weeks the “grab some essentials we will absolutely use” week. Grab some extra cans of beans, see if anything is running low, any stuff on sale? Grab.

There is not a right answer there. Saving $8 for later is good but you can also use the $8 to stock the pantry with a great sale item. If I can get pasta for .89 instead of 1.39 that week. It’s about maximizing your resources overall.

Whether is $100, $50, $15, $8.73, or whatever. Saving is saving and it all makes a difference because it's more you had than before

If you can consistently come $8 under, then after 10-11 trips you have the money for another trip. Even better if you’re saving the spare money in a savings account

I'm both 😅. if i come in under i usually will spend it on stock ups. beans, rice, flour, sugar ect. so when the budget doesn't allow for wiggle room I'm solid

The only reason I don’t follow this 100% is because I own a deep freezer and we have dips in our income throughout the year. So IF I am under budget AND there’s a genuinely good deal on something I can put in the freezer for the harder months, I will do that. But it’s careful, intentional purchasing, not just getting whatever cuz I technically can today

when it comes to a food budget I think smartly spending to the limit is better than saving the $8. if theres a good deal on non perishable or other pantry items you should spend it to have more food in the house. other parts of the budget I think are different where coming in under would be better and can be saved

Being under budget is excellent, but you can pivot and add that towards picking up a few extras for your long term storage pantry too. it's always good to have a small stockpile of shelf stable items that can last for more then a year, especially if you're good at processing like pressure and waterbath canning, or dehydrating.

This is how I budget. The lines for variable expenses like groceries, gas, or utilities are always based on the highest possible number for those things. If at the end of the month it comes in lower, I save the difference
