Ok so, my German husband and I have been getting A LOT of questions, as if Paris had been completely destroyed 😂 Guys. First of all, the vast majority of the protest was peaceful. And before talking about violence, can we PLEASE talk about why people were protesting? Students fighting for their future, hospitals falling apart, the cost of living, insane gas and food prices, sexual violence, the protection of children, and powerful people escaping accountability. People are FED UP. Now, about the violence… If you know French history, 1789 wasn’t exactly peaceful either 😂 I’m not going to condemn people’s anger when there’s SO MUCH to be angry about. Anger is legitimate, and sometimes so is the violence that comes with resistance. Social change rarely happens by politely asking. As for the small businesses that were looted, yeah, that’s a shame. The idea was to target big corporations and symbols of state power, not ordinary people. Some crossed that line. But you all expect the left to be absolutely irreproachable. Come on. There are assholes everywhere. And defending yourself against police violence isn’t the same as attacking innocent people. Because let’s ALSO talk about police tear-gassing peaceful protesters, kids, BABIES in the metro, musicians… Where’s the outrage? And btw, when I left, literally TWO streets away, people were ALLLLL eating and drinking on terraces 😂 Paris wasn’t burning down. But broken windows make better headlines than people demanding a better life, right? So please, don’t let far-right media fool you. Follow independent journalists. Try to understand WHY people are angry before judging HOW they express it. And relax, Paris is still here. We’re French, protesting is practically a national sport 😂✊ We are angry and I don’t condone the people who use harder ways to protest. It’s all of us against the rich that’s all. #17octobre #parisprotest #manifestation #paris
