The Daling-Daling dance is a traditional dance of the Bajau people, particularly among the Bajau and Suluk communities of Semporna, Sabah, and the southern Philippines. The lyrics of Daling-Daling songs revolve around themes of love, courtship, and admiration. And yes, you guessed it—“Daling” means “Darling”, a term believed to be derived from the English word darling, meaning “beloved” or “loved one.” This fast-paced, vibrant, and joyful dance is performed in a lively, romantic style, making it a highlight at weddings, cultural events, and celebrations. Male and female dancers move gracefully, engaging in playful and flirtatious exchanges, with elegant hand and finger movements adding to the charm. Though rooted in Suluk traditions, the Daling-Daling dance has become a cherished symbol of Bajau heritage, especially along the East Coast of Sabah, Malaysia. The Daling-Daling dance in this video was performed at the Malaysia Dance Festival 2024 in Sabah, organised by JKKN Sabah (Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara, Negeri Sabah). #Bajau #Suluk #DalingDaling #Dance #Sabah
