Because you clearly never worked in a pharmacy. There is a whole process to go through. If you are requesting a refill right then and there, they have to process the medication through the insurance company which takes time, they have to count the pills, the pharmacist has to review the prescription and the way it is written and ordered otherwise their license could be on the line if there is an error. Plus let's consider the other hundreds of prescriptions they are working on that likely came before yours, some higher priority. You aren't the only patient they are working on.
