"With his arrest, we can finally prosecute one of the biggest fish in the Feeding Our Future scheme," U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen told CBS News' Jonah Kaplan after the capture of the alleged second-in-command in what's been described as the largest COVID-19 relief fraud scheme ever charged in the U.S. The massive fraud scheme, centered in Minnesota, allegedly stole more than $250 million in federal child nutrition funds meant to feed children during the pandemic. Abdikerm Eidleh, 42, was taken into custody Thursday in Mogadishu, Somalia, in a daytime raid coordinated by both the FBI and Somali intelligence agencies. Eidleh was indicted in September 2022 as part of the Feeding Our Future fraud investigation and had fled the U.S. in 2021. Rosen said Eidleh was "second in command" to Aimee Bock, the convicted ringleader of the scheme, who was just sentenced to more than 40 years in prison. So far, prosecutors have charged 79 people, most of Somali descent, in the Feeding Our Future case. Of those, 66 have been convicted or are pleading guilty. Eidleh has yet to enter a plea in the case.
