@changatang: i hate the trolley theory sm bc this dude was out here constantly saying things like this and showing his true colors but nobody was smart enough to clock itttt until it was too late #arthurmorgan #rdr2 #dutchvanderlinde
the trolley theory is an insult to a deep character like dutch

Why do so many people think Dutch was ever good? He’s a narcissist with a superiority complex and a ton of other issues. Like Rains Falls said “people don’t change, they become more of who they really are”. Part of Arthur’s character arc is figuring out his father figure truly is just a terrible person.

With every new play through I see his narcissism earlier and earlier it’s crazy…

“Stay strong. Stay with me.” So early in the game that you don’t realize that line alone is all his insecurities shining through.

he always was a narcissist he just managed to hide it really well that being said I do think he cares about the gang but he definitely had some sort of saviour complex

You see Dutch in a completely different way after the first play, and I love him for that. In my first playthrough, I thought Dutch was a good leader until the last moment, but after I finished the game for the first time, it was like my eyes were opened to the true nature of Dutch

I’ve never liked the trolley theory either, to me it downplays Dutch’s true evil that was present the entire game, and even before the game starts. It’s obvious to me that he was always like this, but the events of the game just pushed him further into madness

Dutch is so complex and fantastically written a genuine goated character imo

This boat scene is actually what made me look at him differently BECAUSE of that slip up. I was like ah I see; there is not loyalty in all of our blood.

People always forget the key part of his character is that he was always fractured / crazy, he just shows more of who he really is. A huge theme in the game is that, people don’t change they become more of who they really are. Dutch was always a pos and the trolly theory kind of diminishes his character.

I find it interesting how he said to Arthur he was considering “a famous chess move” a chess opening famous for sacrificing alot of pieces. He absolutely knew what he was doing

“I” was just a simple foreshadowing. He knew HE was always going to be okay, he didn’t care about the rest unless he got what he wanted.

i think they were somewhat clocking it but backtracking themselves because it’s dutch and they love him and didn’t want to believe that he was ACTUALLY like that.

The fact that that isn’t even the first time he has that slip in the game and yet people still miss it and are convinced the trolley was the problem 😭😭 not to mention the countless other context clues you get in camp just by getting random dialogue with him

I was replaying the game recently and in chapter 2 there is a wagon near the cliff that has a note that Dutch wrote to rehearse one of his big speeches first time I found it he was out for himself the whole time

he always looked only for himself, if he actually cared about the gang, they'd have been in Canada in chapter 2

I feel like people completely miss the fact that almost all of the gang members are completely aware of their action and their members actions. Despite Dutch becoming crazy the Vanderlind gang was STILL better than the majority of gangs or groups that existed most of the members were rlly non judgmental about certian people. And again, aside from maybe one or two people
