@an.i.ma.tion: A clip from "Eye in Tuna Care" (2013), by John Walter Lustig. A buttoned-up dentist meets the one patient his training never prepared him for: a giant, unblinking eyeball. The premise plays it straight, which is exactly what makes the absurdity land. Lustig has said the whole thing, title included, arrived in a dream, and he never bothered to translate it into sense. Lustig is an indie animator who builds his films almost single-handed, taking script, direction, animation, voice, sound design, and editing himself. This one carries an original score by composer Ray Lustig and a violin line from Stephanie Anne Block, giving the deadpan visuals an unexpectedly lush backing.
