@travismayo: Psychologist Jennifer Freyd identified a pattern she called DARVO. Deny. Attack. Reverse Victim and Offender. You confront someone about something real. They deny it. Then they attack your character. Then somehow they become the one who has been hurt. And you walk away confused and guilty wondering if you were wrong to say anything at all. That confusion is not an accident. It is the mechanism working exactly as designed. Freyd found that DARVO doesn't require the person running it to be consciously aware they're doing it. well, in my opinion it's not the case in all scenarios as some people in the sake of keeping relationships smooth, they ignore hurt from the other party only to be shocked that they now use it against them. So naturally they'll say; I can't believe you're attacking me with the very same situation I forgave/ignored in when the hurtful situation happened 🤔
