We have a pet rabbit. He was a 4-H project for another family. Then he was a 4-H project for my daughter. Then my other daughter. He’s ~15 years old now and has his own bedroom in our house 😎. Just a plain old black mini lop.

just a reply to the last thing of "where else would they go? a shelter?" you are actively breeding them into existence. You can stop doing that, slowly there will be less and less and eventually no more rabits

someone bought one of the best does in my rex litter and took her to a cat/dog vet when she started acting weird. the Vet put her down. I asked the symptoms and she had GI stasis. The vet said a 9 week old rabbit had advanced cancer in her bladder. the person who bought her never messaged me to ask what might be wrong...

Our medium sized farm bunny lived to be 11. She very rarely needed some pineapple juice to help with digestion and had a single incident where she needed fluids along side the pineapple juice, so 1 semi expensive vet visit. she probably wasn't from a very perfectly intentionally bred litter, but she definitely wasn't from pet shop stock and it showed

ive had rabbits for years and have never needed to go to the vet. they are healthy. they eat lots of garden scraps, grass/clover/violets, Timothy hay and pellets. I give them fruits and veggies too never had any get bloat.

2 years with a "pet" rabbit. Had a hutch on the porch and gets pellets and hay daily with an occasional treat from the garden (collard leaf[his absolute fave!], a blackberry, a small carrot with the greens, etc). Zero issues AND a good supply of rabbit poop for fertilizer.

I do understand that farming is really expensive, I do understand that you guys need profit, and all. But this is really just eugenics label as ethical breading because why? They are of "low maintaince" You could do whatever you want. That is your choice but calling it as ethical.... well, i do have a problem with that
