You don’t really make things better for yourselves, do you? Instead of putting all the focus into arguments over decriminalisation, why not put more effort and funding into rehabilitation and tackling the root causes of addiction? Look at why people end up becoming addicted in the first place. Invest in the communities affected, fund youth outreach programmes, mental health services, sports, education, and real opportunities for people. These communities have been neglected and drained of resources for years, and now we’re seeing the consequences, with many people struggling with homelessness and addiction on the streets of Dublin. A lot of this comes from failures in policy and support systems. The focus now should be on fixing those problems, not just arguing over the symptoms.
