I think it was around the year 2000. We were invited to a techno party in Cologne on the MS Treibgut, an old party boat on the Rhine. Chris Liebing was there, and just before he went to the decks he said: “Watch what I’m going to start my set with.” Then he played it. We all just stood there with our mouths open. Completely blown away. That sound was something else. Gatex wasn’t even released yet, and that endless intro felt like the future landing right in front of us. Thank you, Umek. You are part of my youth, part of my memories, and for me — like for so many people on this planet — a true music legend.
