@chronic.pain.specialist: Part 4: Most people with muscle pain think muscle relaxers work on the muscle. But most of them actually work on the nervous system. Your body is managing: • Muscle tone • Nervous system activity • Threat perception And muscle relaxers can influence all three. Here's what's happening: Your muscles are never completely off. Your brain constantly maintains a small amount of contraction called **muscle tone**. This keeps muscles ready for movement. But when the brain perceives ongoing stress or threat, it can increase that muscle tone. Over time, muscles become tight, sore, and difficult to relax. Many muscle relaxers work by reducing the signals that create this tension. Some reduce excitatory neurotransmitters like glutamate. Others increase inhibitory signals like GABA. The result is less input telling muscles to stay contracted. That matters because: → Muscle tension decreases → Spasm becomes less frequent → Movement becomes easier Here's the part most people never hear: If the brain is increasing muscle tone because it perceives danger, the muscle isn't always the root problem. The nervous system may be. This is why chronic muscle tension can become a cycle of: Stress → Increased muscle tone → Pain → More stress Some muscle relaxers work centrally through the nervous system. Others work directly on the muscle itself by affecting calcium, magnesium, and energy production inside muscle cells. Both approaches can reduce symptoms. But long-term improvement often requires addressing the systems driving excess muscle tone in the first place. This is why practices like breath work, meditation, yoga, and tai chi continue to show benefits. Not because they "relax" you. Because they help retrain the autonomic nervous system. And when you understand the physiology, your symptoms start to make sense. #MusclePain #MuscleTension #PainScience #NervousSystem #ChronicPain

I was temporarily given soma works good but hard to get it prescribed because they say addictive. They say that about all the meds that actually work. its getting ridiculous.

I have widespread CRPS and have made several changes based on your videos. I took a super vitamin b complex and experienced horrific widespread nerve pain and anxiety. Do you know if that is attributed to one of the b vitamins in particular or should I discontinue all of them?

Right now I’m on 10mg oxy 4x a day. 4mg tizanidine 3x a day. Just started a prednisone pack (day 1) and gabapentin 300mg 3x a day that I also started today. I can barely put weight in my left leg. I sincerely hope the prednisone and gabapentin that were added today help.

so if your not able to bind calcium then that may be part of the reason why an L3 fracture isn't healing causing it to be chronic?

Baclofen knocks off IQ points, flexeril makes me sleepwalk and gives me amnesia, Robaxin just doesn't work anymore. Just put on tizanidine so far so good except for sleepiness so I have to time dosages carefully so I can drive to work w/o 💀 someone
