The pretty blue in water is from it being clear and reflecting the sky, not from being blue water. There is vegetation that can be planted to naturally filter the water. That option supports the ecosystem and creates lasting stability (I don't know how long dye lasts). But going that route also creates better drinking water for the wildlife
