@cbcnews: Botox can be booked for the next day but you could be waiting months to get a potentially cancerous mole checked out. Public health-care advocates are worried that this shift toward out-of-pocket cosmetic care is a symptom of creeping privatization. #Dermatology #CosmeticDermatology #PrivateHealthcare #CBCNews

We should not have private healthcare happening. It should be public, non-privatized, and well funded.

I wanted a mole off and spent $500 going to my cosmetic dermatologist instead of waiting to see them on the medical side. Medical side was several months wait, cosmetic side was 3 days

Thankfully, the dermatologist I was seeing has moved entirely to the medical side. Can’t see her for Botox any longer, now I see her nurse practitioners at her clinic. She also signed up to administer Covid vaccines when they first came out. She’s wonderful and I wish all doctors were like her!

This is part of socialized medicine. When you force physicians to work within ridiculous constraints for low pay relative to years invested - of course they’re going to go elsewhere. It sounds like CA is gearing up to prohibit private practice. That will not be good.

This is why the government should offer reduced student loans or some kind of other benefit for dr and nurses to do free clinics and other public services.

And it’s not covered by a hip. I think it was like nine years ago they charged me $180 to get one checked and removed. I have to get another one soon and I bet it’s gonna be like 250+

I've been referred to the same dermatologist 3x. if you don't see them again within 6 months you have to get back on the list. (calgary)

My derm since childhood did this to me several years ago and I’m sure it’s only getting worse.

Seems like an insurer issue, why are they underpaying for cancer screening?

Referrals to Derm’s should be abolished in Canada and everyone should have free access to see a dermatologist directly

Be careful Canada! I live in NZ and we have 2 tier health systems. I can't get referred to a derm for my starring alopecia which means I can't access meds that only a derm is allowed to prescribe. They won't refer because the only referrals being accepted are for cancer and there is still a long wait there.

Ok so Botox injectors are generally not dermatologists, and I got a dermatologist appt in a couple days. This is not standard.

I’ve had malignant melanoma. Been getting yearly check ups since. My public dr has closed his practice just recently. I am now paying $800 to have my moles mapped with a dr privately. It’s not right.
