Honestly, if I don’t like the behavior that my kids are modeling after me I either reevaluate my behavior or I have a discussion with them about the context and create a similar scenario for them that feels age-appropriate and alongside our values and morals as a family. As an example in your scenario, I would set up the camera once a week for my kiddo and let them make a video for family. Send it to family. Let them respond. It will give him the experience he’s looking for that he sees you so excited to engage in however, it will be framed age-appropriate and safe for him. Hope this helps. Also give yourself some grace. We all deserve a little grace.

My daughter did this all the time. And I even made her a private YouTube channel that literally no one could see and she loved it and now we can watch those videos back and they are the absolute cutest. (She did think all along she had a YouTube channel) Also she’s older now and makes the most creative craft videos with skills I could never teach her.

Me and my sister used to make “YouTube” videos when we were kids and we thought it was so cool. None of those videos were posted but it was so fun to make. As long as he is having fun I don’t see anything wrong with it! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

Hi! I’m a photographer and my daughters uses pretend cameras and set up their dolls and stuffys all the time. It’s what she sees and she wants to be like me. I don’t see a difference here, even if it’s not “your job” in your eyes, it’s what he sees and you aren’t modeling anything bad. If he was pretending to do your husbands job or hobbies you wouldn’t think twice about it. Don’t worry girlie! 😘

My son films long videos on my phone for his YouTubers 😂 he will even say “if you want to see more, subscribe below”. He’s 4, he has no YouTube channel, but he’s mimicking what he sees from some of the kid YouTube channels we let him watch and honestly he has so much fun just filming and doesn’t know we don’t post them.

Pretend play is a way children make sense of their world. I would prefer my child emulated this (it is part of our culture now) than copy what the kids on youtube are doing (attitudes, disrespect etc) I believe you balance your real life with your screen life and you are showing him the balance-art, financial responsibility, loving amd appreciating nature.

Kids learn by imitation, but your videos aren’t anything bad to imitate. I think it is the world we live in. It’s changing so much, I can’t keep up. Honestly use it as an opportunity to teach interest etiquette - something kids need but rarely get.

Real talk. This is just the world we live in now. The screens, cameras and phones are everywhere. Now AI is being focused on us. I don’t think the kids will be able to avoid it. It’s not you. I don’t even know how dangerous all this technology is. I just don’t know.

As a stay at home mom it is so important to have something for yourself especially some way to connect and have community motherhood can be lonely. Also for your son let him film real videos and save them for you and for him! My kids love to grab my phone and take little videos of things that make them happy and I cherish those one day they’ll be older and I’ll get to look back on that child like joy!!

I used to record sound recordings of myself as a kid and pretend I was on the radio or something (pre WiFi and YouTube 😂) and I never saw my parents do anything like that so it also is just normal kid behavior imo 😆

I think most of us did this in some form or fashion when we were younger in relation to whatever electronic messaging form was linked to our generation. This is a hobby you enjoy that seems like you are stewarding well in front of them. If every second revolved around this I’d say, yeah, cut back, but it doesn’t seem like it’s the case. My kids love making little videos of them playing outside or creating things, I think it’s a healthy step into understanding the natural way of life we’re walking in now
