@strombo: He would have turned 70 today. Some people show you the world. Anthony Bourdain showed us the people in it. His real subject wasn't food, travel, or television. It was humanity. Take a watch - here is clip with Tony.
I cried so hard when he died, & it surprised me. It took years before I could see his face or hear his voice without choking up. A real gem. 💜

Strombo, Bourdain, and Rick Mercer most shaped the way young me viewed music, food, politics, culture, and the world as a whole. and old me still believes i am better off because of it.

His is one of the few celeb deaths that truly felt like a loss for the world. He was a rare light in the dark. You have a similar thoughtful curiosity, btw.

Food is a result of culture. You can eat the food and enjoy it, but to experience the food is to experience the culture that created it.

He was truly a personal hero to so many including myself - Kitchen Confidential and A Cook's Tour gave me the boost I needed to go into the culinary arts. A great man the world lost entirely too soon

I can never remember exactly the quote, but he always said that so many of the worlds problems could be solved over a meal. I always took that to heart. it gave so much depth to a simple saying. because to him it truly never was about the food. he understood that people are the most at ease when you welcome them to do the most basic of things. something we all do. the foundation of common ground.
